Collections Specialist I

Full Time w/ Benefits

We are looking for enthusiastic and detail-oriented individuals who will be dedicated to providing exceptional service to our membership.

The individual in this role will be responsible for collecting on individual accounts and maintaining detailed records, providing administrative support in the collections department, and performing member service and/or teller functions as assigned.

  • Proficient use of Credit Union systems and online resources to achieve contact/communication with members.

  • Early initial and frequent calls to members, co-signers, and guarantors for payment in delinquent loans.

  • Prompt follow-up according to procedures for non-payment.

  • Maintain detailed record of all communications in the Portico system with a high level of accuracy and consistency.

  • Maintain strict privacy regarding member account information.

  • Process correspondence for collections department and provide general administrative support.

  • Maintain collection files according to department procedures.

  • Process automatic transfer payments requests, ACH direct payments, payroll deductions, etc.

  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to federal and state laws regarding collection on delinquent accounts and member contact.

  • Support member services in the collection of negative balance accounts and return deposit items.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

  • Work Monday thru Friday; work Saturday Branch teller-rotation.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • One (1) year of directly related customer service experience in sales, collections or in a financial institution.

  • Prefer consumer collections experience within a financial institution.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal

  • Ability to remain calm, patient, objective and professional when presented with difficult situations.

  • Attentive to detail, accuracy with numbers and record-keeping, with good follow-up.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and work in a time-sensitive environment.

  • Ability to operate all related computer applications and business equipment including calculator, copier, phone and fax.

Teller (Member Services Specialist)

Position holder assists members promptly and professionally with excellent service, and builds strong member relationships by providing quality service and recommending products and services to meet the members’ financial needs. The individual in this role will be responsible for:

  • Performing a variety of member services in person and on the phone, at a high level of accuracy and efficiency.

  • Processing member transactions to include deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, loan payments and cash advances, selling money orders and cashier’s checks.

  • Posting and balancing daily transactions and verifying cash and check totals.

  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • Working Monday thru Friday as assigned, and Saturday Branch rotation.

  • Able to travel between local branch locations as needed.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum six (6) months cash handling and customer service experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; willingness to assist others; excellent math skills and accuracy handling cash.

  • Ability to understand and apply detailed procedures and information about all products and services.

  • Ability to operate related computer applications and office equipment including calculator, copier, scanner, telephone, fax and money-counting machine
